A Short Biography

Frank Bäuerle grew up in Weinsberg, a small town in southern Germany about 30 miles north of Stuttgart. He did his undergraduate work in Mathematics (major) and Computer Science (minor) at the Technische Hochschule in Karlsruhe (now called KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Germany, after which he received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of California at San Diego. His mentor and PhD advisor was the late Professor Jeffrey B. Remmel. Frank did his research work in Recursion Theory and Complexity Theory, an area lying at the intersection of Applied Logic and Theoretical Computer Science. He is currently a Teaching Professor in the Mathematics Department at UC Santa Cruz. Together with his colleague, Distinguished Professor Anthony (Tony) Tromba, he has developed the UC-wide online calculus course sequence, Calculus I,II,III & IV for Science and Engineering, which so far has been taken successfully by well over 23,000 students.
